美術家。1967年、長野県生まれ。
1997年、武蔵野美術大学大学院造形研究科修了。

1988年に独自の技法「ピクセル・モンタージュ」を考案。写真や印刷物を細かく切り取り再構成することで、ミクロとマクロの視点を融合させた独自の視覚表現を展開している。近年は、電子回路と日本庭園の構造的類似性に着目したシリーズ『ZEN CITY』『ZEN GARDEN』を中心に、デジタルとアナログを横断する作品を制作し、現代における「視覚と記憶の再構築」を試みている。また、日本の印刷物を素材に、日本文化をテーマとしたピクセル・モンタージュ作品も継続的に発表し、活動の幅を広げている。

国際的な活動も活発で、2024年には第19回Arte Laguna Prize（アルテ・ラグーナ賞）のファイナリストに選出され、イタリア・ヴェネツィアでの展覧会に参加。2025年にはドイツで開催中の国際展「NordArt 2025」に出品するほか、Arte Laguna Prize上海展にも出展。さらに2026年には、ニューヨークを拠点とするアートプラットフォーム「Homiens」によるアートプライズにおいてファイナリストに選出され、オンライン展示にて作品が紹介されるとともに、アーティスト選抜企画《Meet the Artists》に選ばれ、公式ブックレットにも掲載されている。

また同年、ロンドンを拠点とする国際写真賞「Fine Art Photography Awards（FAPA）」第12回において、Professional部門（Fine Art）にてノミネート作品として選出されるなど、写真表現の分野においても国際的な評価を得ている。

これまでに、東京・大阪・名古屋・札幌・長野をはじめ、ニューヨーク、パリ、ハンブルク、ウィースバーデン、上海、アムステルダム、ブエノスアイレス、シンガポール、クアラルンプール、アブダビなど、国内外の展覧会やアートフェアで作品を発表してきた。

また、「ウタマロケンジ」としても活動し、壁画、肖像画、雑誌、書籍、DVDブックレット、テレビ、iPhone／iPad用アプリなど、多様なメディアやイベントに作品を展開している。

Kenji Ichikawa is a Japanese contemporary artist born in Nagano, Japan in 1967.
He received an MFA from Musashino Art University in 1997.

In 1988, he developed his original technique, "Pixel Montage," in which photographs and printed materials are cut into small fragments and reassembled to create new images. Through this process, his work explores a unique visual language that merges microscopic and macroscopic perspectives.

In recent years, Ichikawa has focused on the series ZEN CITY and ZEN GARDEN, which examine the structural similarities between electronic circuitry and Japanese Zen gardens. By moving fluidly between digital and analog processes, his work investigates the reconstruction of vision and memory in contemporary society. In parallel, he continues to produce Pixel Montage works using Japanese printed materials, expanding his exploration of cultural imagery and visual language.

His work has been widely exhibited internationally. In 2024, he was selected as a Finalist of the 19th Arte Laguna Prize and exhibited in Venice, Italy. In 2025, he participated in NordArt 2025 in Germany and the Arte Laguna Prize exhibition in Shanghai.

In 2026, his work "Zen Garden (Eikando, Zenrin-ji Temple Pond Garden)" was selected as a Finalist of the Homiens Art Prize – Summer 2025, organized by the New York–based art platform Homiens. The work was featured in the online exhibition and he was also selected for Meet the Artists, appearing in the official booklet.

In the same year, his series "ZEN GARDEN – The Structure of Silence" was selected as a nominated work in the Professional category (Fine Art) at the 12th Fine Art Photography Awards (FAPA), a London-based international photography awards, further establishing his recognition in the field of photographic art.

Ichikawa has presented his work in numerous exhibitions and art fairs across Japan and internationally, including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Nagano, New York, Paris, Hamburg, Wiesbaden, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Abu Dhabi.

He also works under the artistic name "Utamaro Kenji," expanding his practice into murals, portrait works, magazines, books, DVD booklets, television, and mobile applications for iPhone and iPad.
